Some business owners succeed in selling their business or transferring it to the next generation when they want to retire, but both of those options are becoming more difficult due to various economic and demographic factors. Unfortunately, the default succession option for many business owners is to liquidate and close, which shortchanges business owners and saps the communities’ access to jobs and economic activity.
