Workshop on Worker-owned Cooperatives

October 25, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Worker-owned co-ops are a powerful tool to grow economic democracy, worker control, and community wealth. Through this workshop, people will hear about inspiring examples of worker-owned co-ops in Maine and beyond, and learn how they can start up a worker-owned cooperative or convert an existing business into a co-op. We will also talk together about the potential for more worker-owned co-ops in Portland. Presented by Jonah Fertig-Bird, Director of Cooperative Food Systems at the Cooperative Development Institute. A Co-founder of Local Sprouts Cooperative and Maine Farm and Sea Cooperative, Jonah now focuses on working with immigrant and refugee co-ops in the food system, particularly in Lewiston. He is a former Democracy at Work Institute Worker co-op fellow and a current BALLE Local Economy Fellow.

Sponsored and organized by the Education Committee of the Southern Maine Democratic Socialists of America. https://www.facebook.com/events/314234729158860/
