Panel: Developing co-ops beyond borders and papers

October 26, 2024 | Hartford, CT — We had a blast at the Beyond Business as Usual 2024 conference this past weekend! Pável Uranga, director of CDI’s Immigrant Services, spoke on a panel with our visionary colleagues about how the cooperative model can support immigrant communities and the challenges they face. Learn more about our Immigrant Services Program here.

Indigenous and migrant communities in the Americas continue to face violence in various forms from settler governments, bosses, and landlords. Co-ops are one of the strategies our communities have used for generations to survive and resist. In this session, the panelists shared stories as entrepreneurs and organizers developing and operating cooperatives across the U.S. Northeast and around the world.

Thank you to our fellow panelists who are spotlighting the needs of our communities:
Javier Villatoro of Tortilleria Semilla Co-op.
Denisse Cruz-Contreras of Havenly
Dr. Gabriela Pereyra of Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust
David Molina-Hernandez of Fuerza Laboral

Thank you to ReSET (Social Enterprise Trust) and Cooperate Connecticut for organizing this event and bringing great minds together on important issues.
