M4BL Supports Maine Food Co-ops

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) evoked a global response to support Black-owned enterprises. In America, this support led to extending contributions of time and funds to Black-owned businesses across the country.

In Maine, we’re excited to share an article released by Mainer News Cooperative, a worker-owned solidarity (multi-stakeholder) cooperative that includes Mainer staff and regular contributors and is supported by advertisers and readers, sharing how this national support affected New Roots Cooperative Farm and Isuken Cooperative, two cooperatives in CDI’s Cooperative Food Systems program!

New Roots Cooperative Farm is the first immigrant owned co-op in Maine and Isuken Cooperative is the Nation’s first Somali Bantu farm-to-table worker-cooperative food truck.

During these challenging times, we are excited to share their inspiring stories of cooperative resilience.
