The 2021 ROC USA Leadership Institute Training is underway. CDI’s NEROC staff is leading some of the ROC 101 sessions, sharing their expertise on how to run a cooperatively owned housing corporation effectively with new ROC leaders and resident owners from around the country. The ROC 101 track is intended to be a complete course (seven sessions) and a certificate will be awarded after completing all seven sessions. Because COVID-19 is still with us, the training series will be virtual. Check out the screen shot of the opening session. Over forty ROC leaders were in attendance.
The Cooperative Development Institute is ROC USA’s largest Certified Technical Assistance provider (CTAP) in the ROC USA network, working with over 50 communities across the region helping to ensure their successful operation. NEROC’s Julia Curry, Melissa Mullineaux, Aliza Levine, and Libby O’Flaherty are delivering the trainings which began on June 1 , and will conclude on June 17. The comprehensive seven-part learning series covers everything ROC leaders need to know from how to run a multi-million dollar corporation, how to run an effective meeting, best governance practices, and financial management. The trainings also offer an opportunity for ROC leaders and resident owners to get to know each other, share best practices, network, and share their experiences with a realization that they are part of a national movement to secure privately owned affordable housing that is democratically controlled and governed.
A Growing National Movement Securing Affordability
Nationally, there are now 271 manufactured housing communities under resident control representing 18,335 units of affordable housing secured. Not a single community has ever defaulted on their financing. The technical assistance and leadership training provided by ROC USA, and affiliated CTAPs, such as CDI, help to make sure that all communities are successful and that they will thrive in the future.
